Workshop on African Participation in IHY and ISWI   WAPII

Preamble
The Centre for Basic Space Science (CBSS) of Nigeria’s National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) is hosting a special conference meant for African scientists and researchers to get together to present results from the International Heliophysical Year IHY program which held between 2005 and 2009.  A collection of instrument arrays were deployed to various countries in Africa during the just concluded IHY program. These arrays include GPS, Magnetometers (MAGDAS and others), AWESOME, SID monitors and Automatic Weather Stations, Microwave equipments etc . Various experiments have been carried out in the past 5 years over Africa. A United Nations meeting on presentation of IHY results is being planned to take place 6-10 November 2010 in Egypt. The central objective of this conference is to prepare the African scientists for this gathering and create a forum whereby scientists/researchers can present results of their various efforts using the distributed array of instruments.

The workshop will also afford various working groups identified with specific facilities opportunity to hold national/international meetings.

Invitation
The organizer hereby invites researcher/scientist to apply for participation. Applicants with interest in presenting papers and posters should complete the application form and submit their abstracts before 15 September 2010. Intending applicants are expected to prepare their manuscripts for submission at the workshop venue. Applicants who can send in full papers before the deadline have a better chance of being selected for the meeting.

Only intending participants with accepted abstracts shall be invited to the meeting.

A special edition of Nigerian Journal of Space Research has been dedicated to this workshop. The articles submitted to this workshop shall be peer reviewed and published soon after the meeting.

Areas of Research
Contributions are expected from the following areas of research:
Ionospheric studies using GPS, ionosonde and MAGDAS data
Sudden Ionospheric Disturbances SID
Geomagnetism
Climatic variability
Microwave propagation
Aerosol/pollution
Near Earth Objects

Features
This meeting shall feature:

  1. Presentation of results from IHY experiments in Technical sessions
  2. Poster sessions
  3. Meetings of working groups

Technical sessions: These are the sessions in which oral presentations of papers whose abstracts have been accepted shall be made. All presentations are as slideshows.
 
Poster sessions: Provision shall be made for posters. Some of the abstracts shall be accepted as posters.

Deadlines:

  1. 15th September 2010:  Application for participation
  2. 20th September 2010: Notification of invitation to participants.
  3. 3rd October 2010 Submission of complete manuscripts
